Did you know that the Zoo has an Enrichment Committee, which consists of zoo keepers who strive to create animal exhibits that increase behavioral choices and encourage species appropriate behaviors?

We are always working to come up with new ideas to help keep the Zoo’s animals both mentally and physically stimulated (our ZooParent Program also helps provide funds for this!). We recently went down to Lower Seneca Park to collect natural “furniture” for the Meerkat Exhibit. We found hollow logs, brush, branches and root balls! We strategically placed these new items around the exhibit to ensure safety for the animals and to improve visitor perception. When the meerkats were reintroduced to their newly-decorated exhibit, they were excited to check out all of the new furniture! They were climbing, scratching bark, digging, and spending time inside the hollow logs.
Great job, Enrichment Committee!
